KOT activities week 23

2 Jun

Welcome to KOT´s weekly activity!

As summer and holidays are coming closer and closer , the trainings from now and on will be of the more spontaneous kind.
This week we will run orienteering on Tuesday in Täby for those who are interested and still in Stockholm.

We will meet at about 18.00 at Galoppfältet train station. Go to sl.se to find the most suitable schedule.

Please write in the comments if you plan to come, or text us at facebook / whatsapp / instagram so we can bring enough maps.

If you have already left for vacation we wish you, on behalf of KOT´s board,  a wonderful summer and hope to see you again next semester!

KOT Activities week 22

26 Maj

Welcome to KOT´s weekly activities!

 On Tuesday, some of us will run the last leg of the Stockholm City Cup in Gamla Stan. You can still register until midnight by sending an email to sekretariat@stockholmcitycup.se or just show up on Tuesday to run the Open Course. Gamla stan is a legendary terrain of Stockholm City cup and very challenging to run in, so don´t miss it! We´ll decide when to meet up after starting lists are published.
 On Wednesday, we’ll meet in KTH-Hallen at 17:00, so 1 hour earlier than normal!  We’ll run a bit to be prepared for the next gathering activity.
 Just after Wednesday’s training, we’ll do a Potluck (or knytkalas in Swedish ;))  to celebrate the coming holidays !! The idea is pretty simple: bring food so you can eat food! Try to bring something from your own country/town/neighbourhood/family so everyone can have a bite of it. Moreover, in order to have a complete meal, please fill up the following sheets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1BoFPUjdsMe_HGG-MiPx37kOKy3xXPF0oxr3_1KaJyBs/edit?usp=sharing (even if you’re just planning to eat food ;)).
Vi ses !!

KOT Activities week 21

19 Maj

Welcome to our weekly activities!

  • On Wednesday this week we will participate and run Stockholm City Cup again. This time it is held in Bergshamra, where we have been doing orienteering before. For you who don´t know what it is like, here comes a short summary:

This is a cup in sprint orienteering where you run about 2,5 – 3km in city like terrain. Even though it’s a ”cup” it’s okay to just run one or two of the three events. If you have never entered an orienteering competition before we will help you and tell you how it works. It is easy to get there – check for example sl.se to find your way (Bergshamra Metro station). It is good to be on place about 45min prior to start.  Just let us know if you would like to run, either by answering here or on FB / Instagram so that we can easily find each other!

A couple of days before the competition there will be a start list published. When you sign up for the race you can ask for when to start. If you want to start with the rest of us in KOT, you should ask to start between 18.30-19.00. If you buy a map on the arena (which is also possile if you didn´t sign up earlier), there is usually free starting time.

  • Secondly – Training on Thursday 18.00 from KTH hallen as last week. Now we start practise orienteering even here, to successfully manage to exercise orienteering in the forest too. We will run together to the gathering point and go through what you need to know about mapreading / symbols etc. so that you can easily find the controls!

Very welcome to participate!

KOT Activities week 20

12 Maj

Welcome to a week full of great activities!

  • First of all – on Wednesday (15/5), the first stage of Stockholm city cup will take place. We´ve mentioned it last week, but it´s always good to repeat:  This is a cup in sprint orienteering where you run about 3 k’s in city area. Even though it’s a cup it’s okay to just run one or two of the three events. If you have never entered an orienteering competition before we will help you and tell you how it works. The coming Wednesday is Stockholm city cup in Rålambshovsparken. It is easy to get there – check for example sl.se to find your way. It is good to be on place about 45min – 1 hour prior to start.

In most competitions there is an electronic system for timing. If you do not have a Sportident card for use with the system, you may rent one from the competition for 30 kr. If you haven´t sent an email to sekretariat@stockholmcitycup.se for  signing up to the competition, you can also do that at the arena on the day of competition for a slightly higher fee.

  • Secondly – Training on Thursday 18.00 from KTH hallen as last week. Scheduled is running combined with strength excercises.
  • At last, we will do everything to end the week with a fun event as written before; Rävjakten. See previous post and book Sunday this week at 14.00 PM and on for this activity!

Hope to see you soon!

Invitation to Rävjakten 19/5 – an exciting event for everyone!

11 Maj

Welcome to a fun orienteering game in Hagaparken!

We will meet at KTH-hallen at 14:00 on Sunday 19/5 (in a week) where we can
leave our things and then have a warmup run to Hagaparken. ravjakt

Rules

A rävjakt is a fun form of orienteering which includes one or two foxes that act as moving controls. The foxes are walking/running in a definite path around an area. Apart from the foxes there are also normal controls inside the fox path. Every other control that you punch should be in the area and the next one should be a fox. You are not allowed to punch the same control twice in a row. Whoever has the most punches when the time is up wins the game.
After the rävjakt we will go back to KTH-hallen to shower and then we will make our way to Anthony’s apartment where we will share some fika and sandwiches with spread + wine (some awards from a recent competition in France :)) !
This game is suitable also if you feel that your orienteering skills aren´t that good. The mapreading / OL part will not be difficult!
Please let us know if you are planning to join this amazing fun activity by simply writing an answer in the comments :) !

Running distance will be in between 6-13 km.
If you have a bag, it can be locked into our van, but unfortunately, there won´t be any  showers / changing facilities nearby. Bring warm clothes to change with not to get too cold.
